Transforming Financial Markets for a Sustainable Future

Tracker Group is the parent organisation of Carbon Tracker and Planet Tracker - two award-winning financial think tanks leading the way at the intersection of climate, nature, and financial risk.

We connect the financial system with the reality of planetary boundaries. Through our work, we reveal how environmental risk translates into financial risk and what that means for investors, markets, and society. We focus on developing tools and analytics that offer clear insights into sustainability risks and co-create the financial and regulatory solutions needed to drive a just transition.

Our Vision

Finance for a thriving planet

Tracker Group envisions a global financial system that ensures long-term economic stability by embedding climate and nature-related risks into capital allocation decisions, whilst seeking from investors their effective deployment of responsible investment and stewardship strategies.

Our Mission

To transform global financial activities and reallocate capital to create a resilient, just, net-zero and nature-positive future. We aim to accelerate a science-aligned transition to a sustainable economy by driving systemic shifts in global finance. At the heart of our mission is empowering shareholders to act as conscious owners, and investors in other asset classes using their influence to hold companies accountable and ensuring that they operate with integrity and responsibility. Our work supports investors and policymakers by highlighting risks, identifying opportunities, and providing practical, data-driven solutions for real-world transition challenges.

Our Story

Our journey began with Carbon Tracker’s groundbreaking Unburnable Carbon report in 2011, which introduced the concept of the carbon bubble and exposed the financial risks of fossil fuel investments in a carbon- constrained world. This pioneering analysis laid the foundation for a broader understanding of how environmental overshoot creates systemic financial risks and where finance-aligned solutions are most needed. Building on this framework, Planet Tracker was established in 2018 to apply similar principles to the world of nature and biodiversity focusing on “irreplaceable nature” - resources and production systems that cannot be exploited without breaching ecological limits. Together, we challenge the prevailing financial orthodoxy, correct market signals, contribute to financial market regulation changes whilst building a robust analytical foundation for decision-making grounded in planetary limits.
